Target audience:  Everyone Who Prefers Quality over Quantity

This is probably one of the most frequently asked question of our company when comparing us to one of those fly by night operations that give out hundreds of gigs or even terabytes of disk space for a dollar or so.   We wrote this as if you were sitting right front of us - so this page is written for people who only want the truth and the best service possible for their web site.    This, truth, is what a lot of hosts do not want you to know about.   They will joke about it, in fact at our very own datacenter building we hear of our own competitors laughing at customers that are suckered by the disk space lies they claim to serve you!   Our own owner has talked to CEOs of competitors only to hear the same old stories over and over about how much their customers are suckers!   That to us is wrong!  

Which leads us to the a frequently asked question that is presented to our owner from time to time:
 
Why would anyone in the right mind consider one of those hosting companies that give you hundreds of gigs or even terabytes of disk space for very little money?  Are they desperate for business?

They are desperate for your business however the answer has to be broken down into these sections:

The truth is sometimes hard to accept by many who never knew the dirty laundry of this industry...

The truth is, you could host your site with many fly by nights that offer tons of space if you understand that the real deal behind it.  Why are they fly by night you ask?  The reason being is the only way they can win your business is to lie to you!    That's a fly by night and many will agree with that too.    The other hosting companies are over subscribing their disk drives to the maximum in order to fool customers that they will give you that much space.  They are banking on the fact that you will NOT use it.   And when you do, you better read their fine print!    We have heard horror stories of clients being shut down for excessive use for all kinds of reasons.   We know of the strategies they use to "cap" their customers and will use various fine print reasons to push such clients away.  Why run a business based on lies?  They simply do not want you if you actually use what they promote!   That's the bottom line - no one in our own industry can argue otherwise.    Web sites do not need that much space. Generally the average web site out of thousands at Parcom are in the range of 100-250MB of space.    We give plenty of space to our clients and we rarely see anyone exceed even the generous amounts we give to them!   If you are the person that feels they need more, then pay for more.   By the time you need to have a few terrabytes of storage is the time you really need to re-think your site needs - perhaps consider a dedicated server to truly deliver that much content to your visitors.   Most would agree that is what truly makes sense for such a large site owner.

Will the host be prepared to handle the load if ALL their customers decide to use all available disk space?  The answer is NO.  At Parcom, the answer is YES.

But you may be a firm believer in over subscribing disk space and we know such folks exist.   The old industry concern of bandwidth usage is a long time industry game too.   Some will boast "unlimited bandwidth" and some (even major hosts) will boast "impossible bandwidth" amounts surpassing the capabilities of today's hardware technologies.   That is lying to us.  We prefer to give truthful settings and provide a higher standard than any host, even the big ones that are now desperate for your business.

Our systems are finely tuned for web sites, not to be backup storage for your desktops as may people believe they can use their hosting accounts for backing up their entire PCs or Macs.  That's not only foolish but imagine the poor performance when your site is trying to compete with dozens of people trying to back up their desktops or their hundreds of IPOD mp3s onto their sites at other hosts?    We really believe that a web host SHOULD host WEB SITES!

Educating our clients is why we out last our competitors...

Educating our customers is key to our success.  We have lasted longer than many of the hosting companies that give more than they can deliver.  At Parcom we provide the best of the best disk array technologies that money can buy, and never do we skimp and purchase desktop grade (cheap IDE) disk drives which could amount to many gigs of space to give away!    Parcom purchases 15,000 RPM SCSI drives, these are very very expensive.  To top it off we purchase the most expensive RAID controllers.  What does all that mean?  To those who do not know or appreciate those things, just remember that is what you want from your hosting company.   Fast drives and redundancy comes at a great cost to disk space.  You just simply cannot have as much space when you want to provide the best of the best drives to clients of Parcom.

Question for you as you are considering Parcom...

Ask yourself this when considering Parcom over any other provider:  Would you rather have your web site on a $20,000 Drive Array with several hundred dollar a piece SCSI drives with serious redundancy from Dell or would you rather have your important site contents on a cheap set of $49 dollar 500GB IDE drives you can pick up at Walmart with little to no redundancy?    That's how many of our competitors do it!   We could do that, but we prefer to stay in business and have LOW turn over at Parcom.

Summary...

We value quality so much at Parcom that if a client is simply just not convinced that quality matters and that they would rather have a terrabyte for 99 cents or something crazy at another email provider or  host, we simply say "By all means, go to that provider."   That is best for all of us.   In the end we host professionals who appreciate quality and this top datacenter that has taken over a decade to build is not filled with the WRONG type of customers.    That to us means a lot because in the long term, customers will be back from those other hosts.  Once you experience quality, you really will have a hard time going back to those low quality high quantity hosts!   We want you to be happy at Parcom.   So go ahead, experience low quality first, then come back when you are ready for the best!   We'll be here.
